VP, Legal – Detroit

Our client is a regional owner of commercial and retail properties in the Greater Detroit area with a portfolio spanning several states.  Reporting to the COO, the VP, Legal will coordinate with the VPs of Leasing, Management, and Construction to ensure smooth transaction flow.

Specific responsibilities are heavily weighted in regards to leasing and include:

• Managing all lease and lease amendment, lease assignment, and lease termination negotiations and documentation on client’s behalf, to include managing outside counsel and legal department staff.

• Manage all property lease estoppels and non-disturbance agreements, including internal due diligence.

• Manage real estate procedures and documentation including multiple lease amendments, lease termination agreements, and lease assumption / assignment transactions.

• Provide advice and counsel to negotiate leases and lease amendments, including rent modifications, term extension / early termination, sublease and lease assignment agreements.

• Provide legal support for Leasing, Management, Construction, and Lease Accounting Departments.

• Manage real estate-related litigation and outside counsel.

• Supervise paralegals and lease administrators.

• Manage the legal budget.

• Review and negotiate contracts for non-lease issues.

• Responsible for company property lease and related documents files and retention.

The firm offers a very competitive base salary, plus annual bonus and excellent benefits.  Relocation is not a consideration currently.
